Frequently Asked Questions
What is Boffer LARPing?
Boffer LARPing (Live Action Role Playing) is a gaming experience unlike any other. Rather than simply creating a character in ink on a piece of paper or digitally on a computer, you yourself portray them, taking on their abilities, decisions and adventures. Rather than rolling a die to see if you hit an undead monster with your sword, you yourself swing your blade. Rather than clicking through models on a monitor, you yourself garb yourself in costume. No gaming shop, miniature covered table or digital interface can compare to the thrill of actually putting your boots on the trail with a retinue of comrades amid fresh air and hearty song.
What do I need to do to get started?
You can visit our (Link) getting started page, read up on our (link) rules and if you have any questions visit our (link) facebook group or ask on our (link) forum. However, the simple answer is all you need to get started is a means to get out to game site and a desire to get involved!
Am I going to get hurt playing this game?
Like any outdoor activity such as hiking, fishing, camping or playing soccer, it is possible for accidents to occur. However, the combat in Wanderlust is designed to keep any chance for injury to an absolute minimum and our game sports extensive safety, comfort and lightest touch rules.
How often do you run Wanderlust?
We run once a month, almost always on the fourth weekend of the month. We alternate Saturdays and Sundays with another fabulous larp called Kishar, so check our (link) events for details!
Where do you run Wanderlust?
Typically, we run at Bradford Woods, located north of Martinsville, Indiana. Directions can be found here (link).
What is the site like?
We typically play based out of a climate controlled cabin which is equipped with showers, a bathroom, a kitchen and bunks. Our typical site is a quite expansive park/forest with several spots conducive to camping for those who wish to do so.
Do I have to fight?
Not at all! Many players, either due to physical limitations or simply a lack of desire for combat engage in boffer fighting, participate in our events. There are many things to do at Wanderlust that do not involve combat at all, such as role playing, exploration and puzzle solving. There are also a variety of support options available for individuals who wish a more limited form of combat but don’t want to abstain altogether.
How much does it cost to play?
To build a player character and to be a protagonist in the LARP costs $15 per game. Playing an NPC, antagonists under the direct control of the staff, is free as it does not allow for personal choice in what one plays or game-to-game advancement. Game fee is used to cover the cost of renting our site, expanding and maintaining our props and production value and ensuring a superior gaming experience. The staff of Wanderlust is purely volunteer based and all money paid to game fee is used strictly for improving and running the game.
How old do I have to be to play?
Because of the physical nature of Boffer LARPing and because of some mature themes present in our games, we prefer all participants to be 18 or older. However, with parental discussion and a designated chaperone at games, we sometimes allow for slightly younger players.
